I have always loved jewelry. As a kid, I spent hours flipping thru Spiegel catalogs and watching the shopping channels jewelry shows, salivating while I imagined which baubles I’d buy. Somewhere along the line I got my hands on some beads and started making simple pieces strung on dental floss. I “created” many wonderful Christmas presents for family and friends, my mom being the lucky recipient of most of those creations.
As an adult I continued making jewelry but it wasn’t until 2004 when things started to pick up. A good friend asked me to make a necklace for her to wear in a wedding. She wore the necklace as a bridesmaid but then continued to wear it to work at her coffeehouse. People were always asking her where she got her necklace. She insisted I put business cards by the register in her shop.
Before I made business cards I had come up with a name for my company. My husband suggested the name be simple and hip, that’s the Swede in him. Thus nĕk was born. I like to think he meant that as a reflection of my designs… |
